Awkward Moments

There is a new couple I met a few months ago. The last two times I interacted with the husband have been awkward.

And it’s all on me.

I saw them at the talent show (the same one where I gave the spoiler to Jorge). He was sitting down and I leaned in for the cheek kiss. Except my depth perception was off and I basically head butted him. Fully committed to it, I still kissed his cheek. Neither he or I said anything about it.

The next time was almost two weeks later. He and his lovely wife showed up at a gathering. I leaned in for the cheek kiss again. It seemed like he was going to as well, then perhaps remembering the head butt, he pulled back at the last minute.

I kissed his neck.

Yep, just past his jaw line. I immediately yelled at myself. In my head of course, though had it been out loud, I’m sure that would have been the bow of weirdness befitting the situation.

I am now determined that a firm handshake will be the preferred method of greeting in the future.

I related this story to Will, and even re-enacted the kiss. He found the whole thing hilarious. He reminded me of something that had happened with a mom in the homeschooling group.

They met at the beginning of the school year while I was in New York. He works with a lot of young people and has become accustomed to the fist bump as a means of greeting. When he was introduced to her, he reached out to shake hands, but hers were full of supplies for the carnival.

Will fist bumped her forearm instead.

We were obviously made for each other.
